Full slate of activities on the Fourth

By Joshua B. Gray

I&M Staff Writer

With the 4th of July falling on a Saturday this year, festivities for the 233rd Independence Day are set to begin for a long-weekend of family festivities and fun on Nantucket.

Though the weather has been mostly something less than spectacular to this point, a positive Independence Day forecast (as of press time) and many signs of the times have beset the island in anticipation of the national holiday. Majestic sailboats and impressive yachts are filling up the mooring fields and the wharfs around the harbor and downtown, throngs of summer visitors and residents have inundated the sidewalks, bike paths and roads providing an expected return of summer hustle and bustle to this small resort town, and an array of concerts, family activities, theatre productions and cocktail parties have brought some life to the evenings.

A culmination of these many facets are sure to be found over the holiday weekend with an emphasis on the patriotic to be found almost everywhere.
